Introduction
Course Introduction
Section titled “Course Introduction”Welcome to Game Development and Prototyping
Section titled “Welcome to Game Development and Prototyping”This course focuses on the complete process from design to implementation and iteration. The journey covers six distinct game modes, each with specific features that define their genre.
Course Structure
Section titled “Course Structure”Planning Phase
Section titled “Planning Phase”- Use Obsidian to plan six different game modes
- Think about scope requirements for each game design
- Move from design concepts to actual implementation
Implementation Phase
Section titled “Implementation Phase”- Implement game mechanics piece by piece
- Each mechanic functions as a “puzzle piece”
- Pick and choose which pieces to use for specific game designs
Prototyping Phase
Section titled “Prototyping Phase”- Combine completed mechanics to prototype ideas
- Start designing small game experiences from start to finish
- Put everything learned into practical action
Game Modes Covered
Section titled “Game Modes Covered”The course includes development of six core game modes:
- Stealth Survival - Navigate levels undetected
- Platformer - Adventure through levels with mobility mechanics
- Action Combat - Fast-paced skill-oriented combat
- Capture the Flag - Team-based competitive gameplay
- Crafting - Resource gathering and building systems
- Story - Narrative-driven exploration experiences
Development Philosophy
Section titled “Development Philosophy”Think of each game mechanic as a modular component. Once implemented, these components can be mixed and matched to create unique game experiences. The course provides several examples demonstrating different approaches to each game design challenge.
The ultimate goal is to design small game experiences from conception to completion, applying all skills learned throughout the course series.
