Ux Theory Overview
UX Theory Overview
Section titled “UX Theory Overview”Discovering User Experience Methodologies
Section titled “Discovering User Experience Methodologies”This module provides a glimpse into user experience methodologies and different approaches to game design. There are a variety of concepts that apply to all user experience categories to review and consider during development.
The process will give you insights into UX methodologies and different approaches into game design, with concepts that apply across all user experience categories.
Core UX Principles
Section titled “Core UX Principles”User experience design theory establishes the foundation for understanding how players interact with and respond to game systems. These principles guide decision-making throughout the development process.
The Designer’s Role
Section titled “The Designer’s Role”With UX in mind, this course focuses on our experience as tool designers. We’ve seen dozens of common mistakes around user experience that can be easily fixed through proper planning and understanding.
Key aspects of the designer’s role:
- Identifying common UX issues before they occur
- Preparing solutions that save development time
- Understanding player psychology and behavior patterns
- Testing and iterating on design decisions
UX vs Game Design Relationship
Section titled “UX vs Game Design Relationship”Understanding that user experience is separate from game design, yet they flow together, is crucial. While game design focuses on creating systems and mechanics, UX design focuses on how those systems feel and function from the player’s perspective.
Research and Development Approach
Section titled “Research and Development Approach”User experience can be approached scientifically through:
- Theory crafting an idea
- Implementing the feature
- Examining the performance and getting feedback
- Deciding to make changes or keep existing features based on feedback
This iterative approach ensures that design decisions are based on actual player behavior rather than assumptions.
The foundation of good UX theory lies in understanding both the technical aspects of game design and the human psychology of how players interact with digital experiences.
